About the Marley FFCH558

The FFCH558 is the heater section (heat deck) for a commercial downflow ceiling heater suited to large-area heating. It is the core assembly: a 20-gauge steel chassis carrying the elements, fan motor and blade, fan control, thermal cutout and a 3-pole contactor. It mounts in a separate surface or recessed/T-bar enclosure, sold separately.

It ships wired for 5 kW single-phase and can be field converted to three-phase by removing one jumper, or reduced to 3.8 kW or 2.5 kW by removing wires. The non-glowing elements use nickel-chrome wire in a steel sheath with brazed steel fins, and the fan moves about 300 CFM. The fan control keeps the fan running after the thermostat is satisfied until the heat is discharged, and the thermal cutout shuts the heater off if it overheats. An integral thermostat and disconnect are available as options.

Installation Tips

Turn off power at the breaker before working on the heater. Allow at least 24 in. of clearance for this 5 kW unit, and use field wiring of at least #10 AWG rated 90°C or higher. Single-phase is the factory setting; three-phase conversion is done by removing one jumper wire.

My Insinkerator instant hot water dispenser arrived on time, and as described. I had found for a few dollars less on Ebay but had less confidence in the supplier. I ordered three (3) as they were inexpensive and . . . my neighbor has the same model! She was thrilled, and put a new blade on her X-acto knife (a furniture maker) and carefully removed the baffle, as I did, then dropped the replacement in. Cheers all around! So, No. 3 is the neighborhood spare. I used a Magill forceps (I’m a medical writer and interviewer) in the past to remove foreign objects that fell in, while the neighbor always had a pair of long needle nose pliers handy. We both agreed that it was “about time” we had a removable/replaceable baffle. (Yes, yes, we always always unplugged the unit, even flipped the breaker, before diving in.)

I was slightly disappointed when I ordered the right part for my discontinued Craftsman shop vac. I ordered a replacement blower wheel that actually fits a Rigid. The problem was the one sent was only a 1/4" between the impeller and my original wheel was 3/8". Good news is the Representative found the correct wheel. Back in business. I however, had to pay for return shipping.
